More Like Jesus

I have been reading a book titled Reflect His Character by Gary Johnson, David Roadcup, and James Estep. The more I thought about the way we need to reflect the character of Christ, the more I began to remember a hymn that was in that old Heavenly Highway Hymns hymnal, “More about Jesus.” I wondered what it might look like to change the words a little to focus on being “More Like Jesus.”

More like Jesus would I be,
More of His grace for all to see;
More of His mercy, saved by grace,
More of His love seen in this place.

More, more like Jesus,
More, more like Jesus;
More of His saving fullness seen,
More of His love and less of me.

More about Jesus let me learn,
More of His perfect will discern;
Spirit of God, my Leader be,
Sharing salvation full and free.

More like Jesus, teach His Word,
Share in Communion; worship the Lord;
Speak now His voice in every line,
I am a branch; He is the vine.

More about Jesus He’s enthroned,
Glory in heaven all His own;
More of His kingdom’s sure increase;
Tell of His coming, Prince of Peace.

More, more like Jesus,
More, more like Jesus;
More of His saving fullness seen,
More of His love and less of me.
